Io Cooman's Collection of Human Beings Inhabiting the South-Western Parts of the Low Countries -a tentative approach to description and taxonomy- is a collection of photographs based on late-ninetheenth and early-twentieth-century anthropometric and colonial photography. This dark page of photographic history is the starting point for a work with wich Io Cooman takes a stand in the current debate on image and representation. In this series she takes takes up the role of contemporary colonialist which results in a collection full of objectification, stereotyping and absurdity.
